Submitted by Joshua Armstrong on Wed, 07/09/2008 - 13:45.After the machine went into thermal shutdown for the second night in a row, I decided to set up the fan/temperature monitoring software and take a look. I noticed that the temperature actually decreased when one of the rear fans was turned off. So I checked it. The fan was installed BACKWARDS. It was blowing hot air back onto the processors! So I turned it around and now everything seems to be good. Last night's cron run went off just fine. The temps were all well within the normal range (42 C - 68 C). Last time I trust a PC refurbisher to install cooling systems in rackmounts...
